In 2019, Kumacaya is evolving.
Giving a voice to civil society means it would be civil society that tell us where to go by reporting signals (positive and negative). To develop this component of the Kumacaya mechanism, we are organising a trial in Riau Province, Indonesia. We need around 200 local people from: NGOs, students, community groups and workers. You will be able to send us signals on any environmental or social topics related to your area. This will help us create a base to understand the main concerns on the ground. The signal data collected will help target the development of new TOR’s for deep monitoring.
What is the signal?
A signal is an information sent to Kumacaya about a positive or negative environmental or social practice happening around you.
The monitor will have to report on 4 criteria for the signal to be valid and taken into consideration: Topic / subject (share the list of topic), related commodity, GPS point, evidence: Picture/vocal recording
What topic & supply chain?
All topics related to NDPE but not limited to. This list will have to be discussed with relevant Earthworm Foundation experts before sending out to monitors:
The monitor would be able to monitor on any commodities that are relevant in the area, which include but not exclusively: palm oil, pulp and paper, rubber, extractions…
